Complete Naturopathic Work-up and Analysis: This involves an hour+ long interview and consultation. About half of the time will be spent by me educating and counseling you as to the nature of your illness/issues, how it/they came about and how we usually go about addressing those problems in the most Holistic and least invasive way possible. At the end of that time, I will present you with all of the different options, as I see them, for approaching your concerns from a Naturopathic viewpoint. This may include, additional standard or alternative testing, supplementation, diet changes, lifestyle alterations, exercises or stretching, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, acupuncture, herbal formulas, nutritional supplements or other modalities embraced by natural medicine. *In this way, I will be your Specialist as opposed to your Primary Care Provider. Some insurance plans require a referral to see a specialist.
Primary Care: I am available to be your Primary Care Physician under most Insurance Plans. Please call our office and ask if you are unsure if you qualify. Naturopathic Primary Care is centered on prevention of disease and gentle therapies designed more to allow your body to heal itself rather than mask a symptom with a drug. *In regards to drugs - while it is never our first line of defense (usually), Naturopaths can prescribe a limited number of drugs - mostly those that are natural (hormones, etc) or that are derived directly from natural sources. However, many of the most common drugs in use today we can not prescribe. Some choose to come to see me as their Primary Care because they want to try to move away from their drugs and find other means of controlling/ improving (and hopefully getting to the root of) their symptoms, and I can assist with that process. However, if there is need to be on or stay on medication that I can not prescribe, you will have to have an M.D. (or D.O.) that can prescribe those drugs to you, and it may be best if I act as your Specialist.
Adjunctive Cancer Care and Treatment: Naturopathic and Chinese medicine both have much to offer Oncology patients. For patients that are going through chemotherapy and/or radiation, there are many choices available to help mitigate the effects of those therapies, make them more tolerable, and, in many cases, help make them more effective. I can also assist people who refuse conventional treatment and want to treat themselves solely through natural means.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine: Chinese medicine (including Acupuncture) has been the sole medical modality used by over a billion people for many, many thousands of year (literally). As such, there are few conditions or illnesses that it can not either treat entirely or be used as a valuable treatment tool alongside other modalities. Acupuncture will most likely NOT be covered by insurance and will be an out-of-pocket expense.
Nutritional Supplements and Herbal Formulas: Often, we can not properly address a condition through diet and lifestyle alone. If we can, we will. If we can not, then supplements and herbs often enter the picture as a means of either controlling symptoms as we work towards the root cause, or as a means of nudging the body in a certain direction in order to address some imbalance or deficiency. These tools lie at the heart of both Naturopathic and Chinese medicine. By choosing me as your physician, it is understood that, if possible, you would rather use these products than have to take prescription pharmaceuticals. Typically, these products will also be an out-of-pocket expense, can be purchased through the office, at your local health food store/co-op, or over the internet, and can be reimbursed through FLEX or Health Savings accounts.
Alternative Laboratory Analysis: Including: Food Sensitivity testing, Adrenal testing, hormonal testing (sometimes), Stool analysis (sometimes), and functional tests looking at Gastrointestinal function, liver function, etc. Whenever possible, which will be a great deal of the time, I will utilize insurance laboratory testing, including blood, stool, and urine testing. Sometimes, however, we may want to do some testing that falls outside of what the insurance industry considers "standard". These tests can often provide insights that more conventional testing can not, but they also tend to be out-of-pocket expenses (although FLEX and Heath Savings accounts will cover them). Because they are out-of-pocket, they are completely voluntary.
